After reading Chapter 2: Navigating Change of Mobile and Social Media Journalism” A Practical Guide for Multimedia Journalism” by Anthony Adornato. The topics of business journalism and what mobility means to consumers were examined. An interesting outlook I found in the book was embracing change in the newsroom and finding passions for ever-changing roles, and news. This idea goes hand in hand with the power of social media and how journalism impacts our writing and reporting. Discovering the power of brand loyalty and how to discover a brand through social media reveals the changing dynamics within marketing. “We want people to discover our brand and fall in love with it. Compelling content is one aspect of attracting an audience” (Adornato 53). A beautiful nature and ability with the current world we live in is the easy access to produce, compose, and create content. Anyone with remote access to an electronic device can create, publish, or consume content, embellishing a world where society has access to anyone. A positive with this is the seamless access to certain jobs, like reporting or influencing where a strong social presence can enhance viewership and visibility. For me personally, hoping to get into the world of influence in the fashion and beauty industry, having access to limitless social media platforms and devices is such a blessing. Knowing my content, and ideas can be reached by anyone. On the other hand, a negative to this is the concept of over-consumption or over-exposing, where with limitless accessibility people may post too much or take in too much content. Privacy is a value that should still be prioritized, even though we can share anything, it does not mean we should. Understanding when things are produced into media often is hard to return or take back shared ideas. Regret posting or impulsively sharing can prompt extremely negative situations because once the information is released it is difficult to come back from. This idea that socials are open to anyone is targeted through this concept of active audience, meaning the audience can create and publish content. “Mobile devices and social media allow journalists to strengthen their connections with the public and ultimately better serve them” (7). Mobile devices and social media will have huge influence on journalism because journalism is a way to rely on news and information and social media is the outlet and platform to do so.
